As we know that Earth is composed of different type of resources such as rocks, water, forests etc. In this, forests play an important role on the whole geographical area of Earth. The specific area that is completely occupied by different types of trees, plants, shrubs or animals is referred as forests. Some times different type of woodland is also known as forests. It has different types, one of them is Rainforests. A type of forests that is developed or created due to high rainfall i.e. from 1750 to 2000 mm or more then 70 inches, this type of forests is known to be rainforests.

This is called as rainforests because it is totally dependant on the rain fall. Almost all living species are dependant on the rain forest because it is convenient for them to build a habitat there. Rainforests also help in producing the oxygen which is an essential part of living things such as animals, plants, humans, or insects etc. The rainfall of rainforests can be recorded annually and diversity among the species in the rainforests can also be calculated. These forests often found close to sea, rivers etc because in those areas the rainfall is quite higher as compared to other areas. It is also helpful for plants to do the photosynthesis. On the basis of the rain fall and different areas it can be divided into different types.

What is rainforests

Types of Rainforests:
On the basis of the rainfall, climate or altitude rainforests can be branched into four different types but only two types are discussed because they play a major role in the rainforests, these types are as follows

  1. Tropical rainforests
  2. Temperate  rainforests
  3. Monsoonal rainforests
  4. Sub Tropical rainforests

Tropical Rainforests:
A type of rainforests which is present or occupies the space of the tropical regions from North to South i.e. 10 degree and having the rainfall more then 250 cm is known as tropical rainforests. In this temperature is quite warm as compared to others regions which is very helpful for the survival of species. Different types of tree species are present, having an age of more then 100 years. Mostly trees present in this tropical regions having the broad leaf structure and do the process of decomposition gradually. Tropical rainforests compose of different types of layers i.e. emergent layer, canopy layer, under story layer and forests floor layer. There are different types of plants and animals present in each layer. For example all types of small trees are present ion the emergent layer and in canopy layer the trees present are larger in nature i.e. 30 to 45m.

Temperate Rainforests:
A type of the rainforest which consists of trees having the needle like structure and present in the colder region as compared to tropical rainforests is called as temperate rainforests. The rainfall which can be recorded here annually is at maximum level and they are still present like a single community. Only few types of trees are present in these kinds of forests. The trees which are present in the temperate rainforest have a slow process of decomposition and age ranging from 500 to 1000 years. For example Moses and Ferns etc.

Benefits of Rainforests:
There are many benefits of rainforests which serves the mankind in the present era. Some important benefits are as follows

  1. A biggest type of rainforests provides a wood and different kind of food resources of animals such as meat.
  2. Many types of pharmaceutical products are come from tropical rainforests to prevent the different diseases such as gastro diseases, fever, burn, respiratory problems or for different kind of infections etc.
  3. They are also helpful in preventing the soil erosion and enhance the fertility of soil and reduce the chances of flood.
  4. They are also useful for sake of fresh air, tourism, scientific researches etc.
  5.  They are used for the ornamental purposes such as decorations.
