How does electricity works ?

Working of electricity

The working of the electricity is a technical phenomenon. The electricity works with the help of different phases. There are three basic phases of electricity as single phase, two phase and three phases respectively. House hold electric devices are often considered as single phase.  120 volt AC current is called as single phase working of an electric field. If you measure the power in form of sine waves .you shall see that the waves complete its first cycle at about -170 volts to +170 volts. Single phase systems are used when the electricity is only required for lighting or for comforting. Single phase power systems are usually used in areas where the main purpose of power houses is to cut cost and transmit electricity at large. This current is alternating in nature. Alternating current is the one used to supply the current over a larger scale. Alternating current is generated automatically while the generators are doing their work. The power plants generally generate three phases of electric current. Three phase electric current is transmitted using four different wires. Three phase system has three wires carrying equal amount of electric voltage and the fourth neutral wire. Three phase power system is assumed to be highly organized, because of the equal distribution of electric current contained in all wires. Electricity generators produce three phases of electricity. These phases are counterbalanced by 120 degrees rotation.  Three phase electric current does not enter the domestic electric boards, if they do so the boards are usually split to transfer electricity. When the electricity travels towards its ultimate destination its voltage is lowered down. The reason is the presence of transmission network. Thus the ultimate consumer receives the 120 volt electric supply at large. This electricity voltage is enough to operate electronic devices.

The single and two phase voltage system is usually used in homes. However the industry’s requirements of voltage are much higher than that of a household. The phase 1 and phase two electricity contains 120 moments per second when a sine wave is completing its cycle along zero volts graph.  In a three phase electric system one of the three phases approximately reaches the peak. Three phase power systems used conductors which are color codes. Color codes are different for different countries. A three phase power system can use standard or other installation. Three phase power is of no use to households because they can only be used for large welding devices or industrial power houses. Electric generators convert the mechanical energy into AC that is alternating electric current.

However now there are single phase converters available in the market. The purpose of these converters is to convert the higher voltage generated by three phase electric system.  In the two phase circuits voltage phases differ by 90 degrees. The two phase generators are much efficient. In 1895 the generators implanted at Niagara Falls were the largest of their time and they were two phase. Two phase current system can provide a lot of support to electric motors. However if we compare the three phase systems, second phase electric systems they are less efficient. Usually the two phase system is not preferred. It is almost obsolete now. However some special purpose projects are supported using two phase electric supply. Two phase power is derived from three phase electric system using Scott. A Scott is an arrangement of transformers to establish a two phase electric system. Three face systems are the most proficient due to its compatible properties. Because all the wires in the three phase electric system carry the same electric load to the destination
