One of these names is Benjamin Franklin who is famous for its kite flying experiment back in 1752. Alessendro Volta took the initiative to make the first electric cell by placing a piece of paper in a salted water tank. The paper was coated with zinc and copper on the opposite sides. He attached the string of cells together to produce electric current.
This experiment further helped the scientist to work on electricity generation. Michael faraday an English scientist was the man who developed an electro- magnetic field for the first time. This amazing discovery became the base of the electricity generation. Today almost all major power houses use this magnetic field to generate electricity. From the day onwards electricity is associated to the magnetism. The working of electric generators and motors worldwide is based on the principal of electro magnetic field principal. The mechanical energy is converted to electric energy in the power generators.
However the advent of electric bulb changed the lives to better. Thomas Edison discovered bulb in 1879.he basically invented a carbon filament which burnt for more than 10 hours. The history of electricity is long and names are many. William Gilbert is one such name. Some people believe that he was the first person actually associated to the origin of electric current. Gilbert narrated that rubbing amber with jet produced electrons. Otto von Guericke proved that importance of vacuum is essential for the generation of electric current. He also discovered the static electricity generator. General electric company was the first company to take the patent rights of an electric bulb. Stephen gray in 1729 introduced conduction of electricity. In 1733 Charles Francois du Fay proved that electricity comes in two basic types which he named as resinous and vitreous, now called negative and positive. Ben Franklin developed a lightning rod, which proved to be the base of practical application of electricity. In 1747 Henry Cavendish a research scientist measured the flow of electrons that is the conduction. George Simon ohm proved the fundamental relationship between current, resistance and voltage in 1827. This rich history gave rise to famous inventions such as eclectic bulb, electro magnetic fields, sources of acquiring energy, discovery of electric generators and laden jars. Layden jars are considered as innovative capacitors that store and release electric charges. Layden jars were developed in Holland in 1754.all these important devices and discoveries led to the modern form of electricity that we have today.
Years afterwards the sources of electricity generation came into existence one by one. Earlier only gas and oil were used. Then the discovery of hydraulic pumps aided in the generation of electricity production from water pressure. The advent of further energy sources as biomass, solar energy and windmills. Nowadays electricity is everywhere in cities, towns and country sides. Life is dependent on electricity like never before. We need electricity for everything. We need electricity for traveling, eating, cooking, in industry, in homes, for pc’s and many more. In the end I would like to share with you an important thought that the advent of electricity would never have been possible without the effort of great men like I mentioned before.
